Shinobu Miyake is a very strong girl! Some say the root of this inhuman strength surfaced from her jealousy of Lum. You see, Shinobu and Ataru were together before Lum tore them apart, Shinobu had even promised her hand in marriage if Moroboshi won the game of tag. Kinda ironic though that the promise she made to him was the same promise that brought Lum and Ataru together.

Ataru was happy Shinobu had promised her hand in marriage and so when he won the game of tag, he cried out something like, "Now I can be married!" and Lum took this as a proposal to her and ever since then the chances of Shinobu and Ataru ever getting together again seem non-existant.

Shinobu later on fell in love with Mendou, but that proved to be a futile attempt at love. The thought of a happy future for Shinobu seemed less and less likely as the only people who fell in love with her were wierd guys, like Soban, that is until she met a guy named Inaba. At first she could see he was handsome, but given her past relationship and bad luck with men, she was easy to believe he was a pervert like the rest. Inaba proved himself to her and Shinobu ended up saving his life and after that she saw he wasn't such a bad guy after all. Shinobu finally had someone to love and one who would return the love.
